The Virgin Islands Department of Education and construction partner Consigli/Benton Joint Venture officially kicked off the $120.6 million modernization of the Bertha C. Boschulte PreK–8 School during a launch ceremony held Thursday at the school’s campus on St. Thomas. Government officials, education leaders, students, and community members gathered to mark the start of what is one of the largest public education infrastructure projects in the territory’s history.
The project, identified as a priority in VIDE’s Educational Facilities Master Plan, will transform the existing 14-building campus with modernized infrastructure, enhanced outdoor learning spaces, collaborative maker areas, and an upgraded auditorium, library, cafeteria, and gymnasium. The new campus is being designed to be net-zero energy-ready, with a projected completion date of December 2028.
“Today marks more than the start of a construction project,” Governor Albert Bryan Jr. said at the ceremony. “When we modernize a school like Bertha C. Boschulte, we are saying our children deserve spaces that support learning, inspire excellence, and prepare them for the future. This is how we build a stronger Virgin Islands.”
The project is funded through the Office of Disaster Recovery in coordination with FEMA. For more information on VIDE’s school construction plans, visit newschoolsvide.com.
