VIPD Certifies 13 Child Passenger Safety Technicians

The Virgin Islands Police Department’s Office of Highway Safety has certified 13 new Child Passenger Safety Technicians after a four-day training program, according to the department.
The program also certified two local child-passenger-safety instructors and prepared two instructor assistants, a step the agency said will help build local capacity for child-restraint education across the territory.
VIPD cited local data indicating that 61% of child passengers travel without appropriate restraints and that 95% of children who are restrained have usage errors that could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
Certified technicians are trained to help caregivers select, install and properly use child restraints. The Office of Highway Safety said the expanded group of technicians will support families throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands.
