The Caribbean Music Awards is taking its next gathering to Trinidad and Tobago.

Organizers plan to hold the inaugural Caribbean Music Awards Elite Weekend Experience at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain from Sept. 18 through Sept. 20. It is the first time the broader awards celebration will be staged in the Caribbean, according to Caribbean National Weekly.

The weekend is built around the theme “Sounds of the Caribbean” and is meant to stretch the program beyond a single awards night. CMA says it will bring together artists, fans, media, creators and people working across the music business.

For the first three years, the awards were held at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre. The shift to Port of Spain gives the event a different setting without severing its connection to the Caribbean diaspora that helped establish it in New York.

CMA also said it intends to work with tourism boards and host destinations across the region in future years, using a rotating model. Nailah Blackman and Majah Hype are set to host the fourth annual Caribbean Music Awards during this year’s celebration.

The announcement comes with more than 250 nominees already named across over 40 categories, CMA said. The full program and ticket information have not been detailed in the announcement.
