VIPD Investigates Whim Shooting That Claimed St. Croix Man’s Life

ST. CROIX — Virgin Islands police are investigating a Monday evening shooting in Estate Whim that left a 45-year-old man dead, according to the Virgin Islands Police Department.
The St. Croix 911 Emergency Call Center received a ShotSpotter alert and multiple calls reporting gunfire in Whim at about 6:04 p.m. Monday, June 15, VIPD said. Callers also reported a possible gunshot victim in the area.
Police, Emergency Medical Services and other emergency personnel responded and found a person suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the department.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries. Police said family members identified him as 45-year-old Rusiel Encarnacion.
The case remains under active investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
