VIPD seeks tips after St. Thomas jewelry store burglary, attempted break-in

ST. THOMAS — The Virgin Islands Police Department is asking for the public’s help as detectives investigate a burglary at one St. Thomas jewelry store and an attempted break-in at another, according to the department.
Police said the first incident occurred around 5 a.m. June 27 at Optimistic Jewelry Design & Repair on Main Street. Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau found that suspects gained unauthorized access to the business, removed jewelry and left the area in an SUV.
The next morning, VIPD officers responded to an attempted break-in at Valentines Jewelers on Raadets Gade at about 2 a.m. June 28. According to police, two people tried to enter by cutting a lock, but fled after the alarm system activated.
Investigators are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity near either business, or who has information about the incidents, to contact 911 or the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or through crimestoppers.org.
