VIPD thanked community members who helped detain a suspect after a June 17 Veterans Drive crash that killed 49-year-old Tammy Harman and injured another pedestrian.
The Virgin Islands Police Department is thanking community members who helped stop a driver from leaving the scene of a fatal traffic incident on Veterans Drive on St. Thomas, according to a department statement.
VIPD said the June 17 crash injured one pedestrian and killed 49-year-old Tammy Harman. The department said people at the scene assisted the injured pedestrian and helped law enforcement apprehend the suspect.
Police described the driver as drunk in the release and said the investigation remains ongoing. The department credited the public’s swift response and cooperation with helping ensure the suspect could not flee.
Anyone with information about the incident or other crimes is asked to call 911 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
